God is good. At the dawn of time, God created the world and called it good. After everyday day of creation, he paused and declared it good. He created the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, commanding Adam and Eve not to eat from it for their benefit.
Sounds simple enough. God created a good world with Adam and Eve.
And then things went awry.
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5
Suspicion entered when the serpent (Satan) convinced Eve to doubt God’s word and the goodness of God’s protection not to eat from the tree.
This tactic continues today whenever the enemy tries to convince us to doubt God’s goodness when things aren’t what we think they should be.
For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. 1 Timothy 4:4-5
Last August I had my sixth tongue surgery to remove worrisome tissue that might be cancerous. Once more, I had to lean into the Lord’s care to trust Him during the surgery and recovery. God sees the beginning, middle and end of my story, while I only see the present struggle. Because of God’s love and goodness, I had a refuge for my soul. It was not cancer and I am glad the tissue was removed. I learned more about trusting God in uncertainties, knowing He was with me when twice before it had been cancer.
Today I had a follow-up appointment with the ENT specialist who did the surgery last summer. I didn’t anticipate any problems, but then again, I didn’t last August when he said I needed to have tongue surgery.
The doctor answered my questions, and said to come back in six months. What relief! I praise God for the good report!
God is good, whether we have good news or have devastating days.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe that truth when nothing goes the way we think it should. Especially on those days, we need to return to the truth of God’s goodness and not listen to the enemy’s whispers of doubt.
God is good, every day.
God specializes in taking the broken pieces of our lives and turns them into something beautiful for His good. It is a truth that we can remember when life gives us uncertainties.
Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His love endures forever. Psalm 136:1
